Empire Runners Club Group Training

Use the Egroup

Each month the Empire Runners Club training director publishes a calendar of group training sessions in the club newsletter and on the club website.  While this is the “official” club training schedule, other groups of Empire Runners meet informally during the week to run at paces, distances, times, and locations to suit their needs.  If the scheduled training runs don’t work for you, a good way to find running partners is to send an email message to the club egroup (members only, empirerunners@yahoogroups.com) describing your running level and preferred training times and locations.

Scheduled Group Training

Mondays
7 PM at the Isabeau/Garcia abode, 1932 Yolo Ct., Santa Rosa.  The route varies weekly, wandering into the parks during the spring and summer months and retreating to well-lit residential streets as daylight becomes scarce in the fall. The run is precisely and unerringly 49 minutes long.  Typically the pace is 7:15 to 7:45 per mile.

Tuesdays
5:30PM.  Intervals.  A structured track or speed workout, sometimes hill repeats, held either on the Montgomery High School track or on well-lit residential streets (especially during the winter months). Suitable to a variety of levels.  Consult the training calendar for the location and the workout du jour.

Thursdays
5:30PM (4:30 Nov thru Feb) at Howarth Park (upper parking lot). Typically the largest gathering of the week, 10 to 30 runners meet at Howarth Park for a trail run, usually through Spring Lake Park and into Annadel.  Planned workouts are prescribed in the training calendar, but the group often breaks up into smaller bands running their own pace and distance.

Saturdays
8:30AM at Aroma Roasters near the train station, Railroad Square.  A flat, out and back course along the Santa Rosa Creek suitable for beginning and slower runners as well as the faster, hard-running crowd.  The training calendar prescribes an interval workout geared to this course, but some make this an easy jog during which they can turn back at any time.  Recovery at one of the Railroad Square coffee houses is usually in order.

Sundays
8:30AM A trail run, typically the longest run of the week, that starts at varying entrance points to Annadel State Park. Occasionally the location is moved outside of Santa Rosa and the start time may be later. See calendar for start location, time, and scheduled distance.

Club members are encouraged to start new groups, recommend workouts or schedule out-of-town training runs. A wide range of ability-levels is present at most workouts.  Contact: Larry Meredith (thirstyboy1@sbcglobal.net).
