Mike Weddington
Mike was president of the club during the glory years, and he had
a lot to do with making them that way. Mike wanted the club to think
big, and he brought in sponsorship from Reebok through a shoe store
in Petaluma, Archrival. The club fielded one of their strongest teams
ever, with runners like Mike Stone, Danny Aldridge, and Scott Pierce
teaming with regulars Eric Walker, Kenny Brown and Eric Bohn. Mike
wrote articles on teams in the PAUSATF competition for publication in
their newsletter, and he started the Empire Open, our club's contribution
to the PA XC Series. He helped organize the Pat Ryan track meet at SRJC
that had stunning success for the few times it was put on. He put together
a team that almost beat Tamalpa in the DipSea (it's never happened).
Unfortunately, the club did not have the resources to sustain the effort, and
Mike was asked to back off. He went on to publish a book on top races
in America that was enthusiastically received by runners, but could not get a
wide enough audience to sustain publication. Mike is still an active runner
in the club, but much less involved.
