Keith Mauer
"Mountain Goat" was very active in Empire Runners for the few years he was
here in Santa Rosa, and he and his wife Sandra still come down from Murphy's
Camp in the Sierra foothills to participate in club events. Keith is a high school
math and science teacher and coaches the distance runners. He got the nick
name "mountain goat" because he is good on hills; he claims you cannot run for
any distance where he lives without encountering hills. The Mauers often played
host to groups of Empire Runners who came to cross-country ski, or in one case,
to crash on the floor the night before the Mother Lode Mile in nearby Jackson.
They now have two boys and a new house they built just up the road from
Murphy's Camp, but they still find time to get down here to join us often, and
we're all hoping that continues.
